Montgomery can support a small, focused outing or a full day that combines history with Lake Conroe. The most useful starting decision is whether you want a walkable town visit, an organized water activity or a regional day trip. They need different kinds of preparation. This guide brings them together without implying that every attraction is in downtown Montgomery or open for an unscheduled visit. Use each listing to confirm the address, contact and arrangements before building the day around it.
Montgomery is known as the birthplace of the Lone Star Flag. The city publishes a self-guided tour of 18 historic sites, which provides a more purposeful route than wandering between unrelated landmarks. Historic Downtown Montgomery's listing points to city information and makes clear that its phone and address refer to City Hall. They are not the address of all the tour stops.
Allow time to look at buildings and read the tour material rather than treating the district as a quick photo stop. A meal or tasting-room visit nearby can fit naturally into the outing. Liberty, Prairie and College streets are useful reference points for dining, but choose an actual restaurant address for a meeting. For visitors with mobility needs, ask about the specific places you intend to enter instead of assuming every historic building has the same access.

N.H. Davis Museum is also known as the Nat Hart Davis Pioneer Complex. It is owned by the Montgomery Historical Society, and Davis Cottage is open with a docent and free admission. That is a reason to make contact before visiting: a docent-led cottage visit is not the same as an outdoor landmark you can view whenever you arrive.
Pair the complex with the city's historic-sites tour if local history is the main purpose of your day. Keep the two sources distinct: the Historical Society owns the complex, while the city publishes the self-guided tour. Take the contact details from the listing and confirm how to arrange a visit. The guide does not replace the organization responsible for admitting visitors.

April Plaza Marina lists boat rentals, a public launch, slips and a general store. Einstein's Boat Rental now operates at Margaritaville Lake Resort, not its former Walden Marina location, and offers boats and paddlecraft. Cruisin' Tikis offers captained BYOB tiki-boat cruises departing Waterpoint Marina; guests park at the Starbucks. These choices suit different groups, so decide whether someone wants to operate a boat or everyone prefers a captained outing.
Lake Conroe Beach Park is the former Lake Conroe Park on Highway 105 W. It closed in January 2024 and reopened in 2025 under private operation on county land, not as a City of Conroe park. Beach access, kayak rentals, pavilions, cabanas, a food truck village and event rentals are listed, with entry by park pass. Alcohol, boats, jet skis, pets and glass are prohibited. A plan appropriate for a marina is therefore not automatically appropriate for the beach park.

The Golf Club at Margaritaville Lake Resort is the former La Torretta course, now under the Margaritaville brand. Its 18 holes were redesigned in 2007 by Jeffrey D. Blume. Tee times are booked online. Use the current name and resort address when arranging a round rather than searching for the older brand and assuming the details are unchanged.
Confirm your tee time before arranging the rest of a day around golf. Ask about the current requirements for your group and allow time for arrival. A resort location does not mean a restaurant reservation, room or water-activity booking is included with a round. Those are separate arrangements to check directly if you are combining activities.

The Things to Do directory includes Texas Wolfdog Project as an animal-related outing outside the downtown district. Use its listed website to learn about current visiting arrangements before driving there. An animal organization is not necessarily a walk-in attraction, and the presence of a public listing is not permission to enter a property without an arranged visit.
For a family day, choose one primary activity and consider the children's ages, travel time and the weather. History, a beach visit and a boating outing have very different supervision needs. Bring the supplies appropriate to the confirmed activity and ask the operator about restrictions. Deleted or closed locations are not alternatives simply because an old search result still mentions them.

The Texas Renaissance Festival is in Todd Mission, not downtown Montgomery. Its 2026 season runs October 10 through November 29, on weekends plus Thanksgiving Friday. Treat it as a regional day trip with its own admission and date-specific planning, not something to add casually between a museum visit and a short lake outing.
Check the festival's official site for the particular day you intend to attend. The guide records the supplied season dates but does not invent opening hours or admission prices. A seasonal event may be a strong reason to visit the region, yet it should lead the itinerary rather than become an uncertain final stop. The newsletter can provide wider local context; the event organizer remains the source for attendance details.

For a history-led day, begin with breakfast or an early meal in Montgomery, then follow part of the city's historic-sites tour. Arrange a Davis Cottage visit in advance if the museum is important to you. Choose lunch in the downtown district so the first half of the day stays geographically compact. This leaves room to enjoy the sites rather than moving constantly between appointments.
For the afternoon, choose either a confirmed lake activity or a leisurely drive to a lakeside meal—not every water activity in the directory. A captained cruise removes the need for your group to nominate a boat operator, while a rental requires a discussion of qualifications and safety. If the weather changes, keep the plan flexible and contact the operator. End with a restaurant selected for its actual location and seating, and make the return trip part of the plan.
